Conviction – Review

I recently purchased a batch of blu-ray movies from Amazon. I didn’t get them straight from Amazon’s warehouse though. I used the “private sellers” option (cheaper). Anyways, first to arrive was this highly-acclaimed movie. Conviction tells the story of a guy who gets framed for murder – at least that’s what his sister believes. The movie follows the extent to which Hilary Swank will go to prove her brother’s innocence. Now I know that this is a true story, but I never felt a climax in the movie. I was waiting for this moment when everything goes wrong and the movie really heats up, but that never happened. Instead, it was a leveled-off movie that chronicles the events at a steady pace. Further, I didn’t feel the honesty in Hilary Swank’s acting. She didn’t embody the character perfectly (at least in my opinion). The movie had so much promise but it never really delivered!

Final Score: 6/10

La Liga 2011-2012 Mini-Preview

The Spanish league is just around the corner, and I couldn’t be more excited. I know many of you might laugh at that notion since most people think it’s a two-horse race between Barcelona and Real Madrid. I agree as well – to a certain extent. I do believe that the champions, Barcelona, will repeat again (sorry Blancos fans). We already got a glimpse of what’s to come when those two teams clash in the “Classico” a couple of days ago (Barcelona 2:2 Real Madrid). My only comment on that game is: watch out Marcelo, that new guy by the name of Sanchez is getting the best of you on the right.

Now switching to my favorite club: Valencia! I truly believe that a great campaign is upon this team. I really do. I’m not going to go as far as predicting that they will challenge for the first two spots, but I honestly think that a formidable team is being built quietly and steadily. Pablo Piatti seems to be a very promising player. Along with new signings Parejo and Canales, Valencia will boast quite an attacking roster. However (and I can’t stress enough on that “however”), there are huge concerns in the back. I think we’re very vulnerable in defense, and that will probably be the reason the likes of Real Madrid and Barcelona will get the best of us. Regardless, i’m very optimistic.

ps: watch out for Malaga next year!

Seagate FreeAgent GoFlex – Review

A couple of days ago I was trying to download something onto my MBPro when I realized that my hard drive has run out of space! I’ve completely used up 250GB of storage. I must admit i’m catching up on many TV shows and movies, so i’ve been downloading a lot lately. I just didn’t expect that i’ll fill up 250GB. Anyways, I decided to purchase an external hard disk. Now the good news (well at least for me) is that my roommate had just recently purchase a Western Digital external hard disk. He said it ran hot, was a tad bit slow, and more importantly, when hooked up to the PS3, it wouldn’t work. Now this is a usual issue with some hard drives/USBs when connecting them to the PS3: you have to have your media files on the root drive (meaning that media files inside folders wouldn’t show up). This was a major issue for me since I’m planning to hook up my external hard drive to the PS3 regularly + I’m a folder freak.

So I decided to avoid Western Digital. I went to Target and found many WD models and some Seagate drives. I had read before on the internet that Seagates are good, but that they too would run hot. With no other option, I decided to go with the 1TB Seagate FreeAgent GoFlex external hard drive. In short, I’m in love with it. There are only two downsides though:

It is a little slow when copying files onto it
It does get a little hot when used for a long time

Still though, performance is excellent. It is very Mac compatible, and easy to use. At first I wasn’t able to directly write files onto it since it is designed to be a back up drive synced with Mac’s Time Machine. I don’t want any of that. I decided to format + erase everything that was on the drive (which literally took 10 seconds via Apple’s Utility Manager) and voilla! I Love it. Highly recommended if you need a portable drive.

I Love Naked

Doesn’t get any healthier than this. Unfortunately it’s overpriced. Still, it feels damn good going down your throat. It feels healthy!

Horrible Bosses & Crazy, Stupid Love.

I recently watched two comedies: Horrible Bosses & Crazy, Stupid Love. My roommate touted Horrible Bosses as “the next big comedy since The Hangover”, so I was eager to watch it. Now let me point out that it’s a very clever story and an original movie. However, – and this might be the result of me entering the movie with a ton of expectations-, I thought the movie was average. Maybe just a bit above average. I did laugh, on several occasions, but it was in NO WAY “the next big comedy since The Hangover.”

Enter Crazy, Stupid Love. Arguably “the next big comedy since The Hangover” (at least in my opinion). I laughed A LOT in this movie. It too had a witty plot, albeit somewhat of a chick flick. Still, it’s definitely worth watching. Steve Carell is the funny actor he’s always been. I especially liked the twist in the end. VERY FUNNY. If I had to choose between the two, I have to go with Crazy, Stupid Love.

Also, it might’ve helped that the audience in the theatre were quite engaged and responsive in laughter during Crazy, Stupid Love, and not so in Horrible Bosses. You know when you go see a movie and the people in the theatre with you aid in the movie’s success by laughing their asses off? It was that kind of situation.

The Other Guys – Review [Possible Spoilers]

Amidst all the hectic work I’ve been up to in the past two days since I first arrived here in Ohio, I’ve managed to go out with my friends to watch The Other Guys. It’s been a while since I’ve last seen a movie, and I’ve been waiting for this one for a while now. And it didn’t disappoint. Right from the get-go the two “Other guys” have been established, and you kind of start thinking about what’s going on in their heads throughout the movie. What I especially liked about this movie is the story. I’ve never seen a movie with a similar idea, so it was something new. Also, the last movie I’ve seen for Will Ferrell was Land of the Lost (which I thought was an extremely bad movie). This on the other hand was amazingly played out by Ferrell. Unfortunately, Mark Wahlberg didn’t come through. His acting just wasn’t there. The good thing is that it wasn’t bad enough to ruin the movie. Still, the movie is filled with laughs all the way through, and twists you just don’t see coming. I highly recommend watching it.

Tough Stretch

Well I’ve finally arrived here in Ohio after 2 grueling days of travel. I must say I’ve enjoyed my summer to the fullest. I managed to go to Spain for 3 weeks with family, and spend the rest of my 3 month vacation sleeping, eating and chillaxing. Now I’m back to work though. My upcoming Autumn quarter starts in two days, and I’m not sure if I’m mentally and physically ready. For one thing, I’ve found out that my license has been suspended (for a long story that I won’t get into). So I’m kinda strapped with my roommate’s schedule for a couple of days until I go to the BMV and clear out the issue. Lots on my mind. A lot.

Standing Up (Help needed)

I just got off the phone with Qualitynet customer service, and I let them know how pissed I am. I am really frustrated at the services and tech support they have. I’m having problems with both speed and the fact that my internet keeps on disconnecting frequently. Within the last 10 days, I’ve had the Tech Support come to my house and check for the lack of speed and the frequent disconnecting issue. Both times they have fixed it, only for the problems to reoccur 12-24 hours after they left. This is honestly getting on my nerve. Furthermore, after just getting off the phone right now with tech support, I’ve been told that I am subscribed for a package that gives me variable speeds between 2-4mb. Now I have no idea how I signed up for that (I genuinely thought I signed up for 4mb), the guy at tech support told me that the speed depends on your “mini DSL”. So I told him that I’m never passing 2.5mb, and he told me that’s because your “mini DSL” can’t handle 4mb. WTF??!! So you’ve been ripping us off KNOWING that we can’t reach the claimed speeds?! This is honestly stupid. And it’s only stupid to have to live with this for any longer. I’ve decided I am going to stop my subscription with them within the next couple of days while I decide which company I am going to switch to.

That’s where I need your help. Please help me out by contributing in the comments section your personal experience with your internet service provider. This will help me a lot. Thanks!

The Aviator Chair

Never have I been interested in such stuff, but this changes everything. I was checking out Uncrate when I noticed this: The Aviator Chair! This is just amazing! I thought that if I were to buy it, that I wouldn’t have any place to put it. Then I thought about how it would look great in my dream Auto Shop. Just stunning.
