Weird Visit To The Moon

February 4, 2010 buckeye23 Leave a comment

OK dreamers, get a load of this: A couple of days back I dreamt about going to the moon! Seriously, the dream felt so realistic. I even recall superficially feeling a nudge when the rocket-ship took off from Earth. Now all I can recall from the dream is that (and go along with me here) I played a card game while on the moon (This I think is related to the fact that I learned a new card game the past week) and I had someone ask me, in the dream, what cologne I had on (which is probably related to the fact that I bought a new cologne a couple of days back. What does it mean when someone “goes to the moon” in their dream? Anyone?

Pepsi Throwback – “Bringing Sexy Back”

January 13, 2010 buckeye23 1 comment

It has been a long time since I last posted. I’ve been busy with early quarter stuff. Anyways, I just saw this really cool ad by Pepsi. They are “bringing sexy back” to all you retro-lovers. I must say I’ve never seen one yet in any supermarket, but it’s for a limited time only. Also, I’m not sure if this is coming to Kuwait.

Update: I just found the official site of this limited time campaign by pepsi, and that there’s “Mountain Dew Throwback” too!

Changes Kwt23 Is Looking For in 2010

December 31, 2009 buckeye23 2 comments

First of all I would like to congratulate everyone for a new year. We hear the words “new year resolution” tossed around a lot at this time, then a week later, these words are tossed for good and everyone goes back to what they used to be the previous year.

Now I’m only writing this because I feel like there is the potential and capability of change in this country. We’ve all read tons of posts, articles, news and heard everyone criticize Kuwait. It’s not new. And while some of what is said about this country is true, people fail to see what’s good. Avoiding steering away from the point – these are three of the things I would like to see change in 2010 in no particular order:

1. Extinction of “Mu7ajababes” : seriously, this has got to end. More and more women are starting to wear their “7ijabs” with whatever they have under it. It is disgusting, and while this has probably starter even before 2009, I would really like to see the trend go to extinction.

2. Kuwait Airways: This is another problem that started prior to 2009. Whatever shit is going on with the management, employees, and equipment has got to be fixed. They have to put their act back together. Kuwait Airways was one of the top flight airways worldwide, and easily compared to the best – but that was five years ago. I hope something is done concerning this this year.

3. Kuwait City: I can see some projects already up and going and others in the process of finishing. From shopping malls to corporate building and offices, it is nice to see the whole scene being shifted to the heart of Kuwait – Kuwait City. Kuwait City is by far the best location in Kuwait – hell, it’s the city! – yet somehow we have found a way to avoid it. I wish that the streets get a revamp over there and more and more projects open up in Kuwait City over the course of the year.

Now I would like to hear from you – what would you like to see change in Kuwait in 2010?

Sherlock Holmes – Movie Review

December 30, 2009 buckeye23 Leave a comment

I heard a lot about this movie prior to watching it, and all opinions were positive regarding this movie. I entered the movie without having read or known anything about the infamous fictional figure that is Sherlock Holmes.

This is one of those movies that is packed with events and excitement from the beginning till the end. It is a comedic mystery revolving around the witty Sherlock Holmes. This is one of those movies where it is loosely based on the main character and how he cracks the case.

My only problem with the movie is that they kind of exaggerated with the smarts of Holmes where you start to feel as if he were not human. In other words, they kind of push the act in making Sherlock Holmes seem too clever to be a human. Nevertheless, this movie is a great adventure and I highly recommend watching it. You will enjoy all the twists in this movie.

Final Score: 4/5

I [heart] Kaizen

December 30, 2009 buckeye23 2 comments

Last time I ordered Kaizen, I was very satisfied. Anyone who read about my last experience should’ve expected this – another post about Kaizen. Seriously, you can’t go wrong with this place.

This time around, I decided to try some new stuff. I called up the place, punched in my order, and in 45mins I was digging in. Their packaging still in my opinion is as good as it gets. The rolls are very well made and were all delicious. I really put this place above both Wasabi and the overly popular Maki.

Simply put, if you enjoy Japanese food at its best and have your taste buds in tact, you must try Kaizen.

Playing For Pizza – Review

December 28, 2009 buckeye23 3 comments

The last John Grisham book I read, The Associate, was brilliantly written. It was my first John Grisham book as a matter of fact. I enjoyed reading the book throughout (although the ending was disappointing). I loved the way he writes his books, so I decided to shoot for another one. Now for the people who are familiar with Grisham, you would know that his expertise is in Law Fiction. Most of his books are that way. I’m not a big fan of Law and all of that, so I decided to pick something different by John Grisham.

Playing For Pizza chronicles the life of an athlete’s career that goes horribly wrong where he is booed out of the NFL after his latest mess-up. He decides to run away from his early career and start fresh. Start all over again. Start in Italy.

Throughout the book, John Grisham delicately weaves football americano and the artistry and culinary cuisine that is Italy. I must give credit to Grisham for he is the best at doing that. His writing is just superb. Unfortunately though, the book never surprises you at all. Not even the ending. It’s just a book you would pick up for an easy read with practically no twists at all.

If you are not a fan of American Football, that is fine as the novel is based on the character himself and not the events. In other words, you don’t really have to know how to play football to fully understand what’s going on.

Final Score: 3/5

2010 Gadgets on my List

December 25, 2009 buckeye23 Leave a comment

I’m pretty much destined to get these goodies in the upcoming year. The list is in decreasing order of “neediness” and “likability” of buying:

1. iPhone: There are already rumors about an upcoming iPhone. With Whatsapp, tons of other apps, a great touchscreen, and an upgraded camera (according to rumors), the iPhone is the unanimous number 1 pick for next year. You just feel that Droid got under iPhone’s skin, so I’m expecting something big from Apple.

2. Netbook: 2010 seems to be the year of the netbooks. The netbook craze has ben around for a couple of years now, developers and computer companies now have more experience about netbooks, so you would expect better netbooks next year. Add to that the fact that we’re already hearing about new processors and technologies integrated in the upcoming netbooks. Furthermore, I need an ultraportable to carry around campus since my 13inch Macbook is on the heavy side.

3. iPod Classic: (or whatever the new name will be). I currently own the latest iteration of the nano, and the two-generations-back version of the classic iPod. I like my nano. It’s light and convenient, but I would like a classic with 160GB of mass storage for a powerhouse iPod.

4. P&S Camera: Now this is not actually a need, and that is why it’s the last item on my list. I have the Sony DSC HX1 (which is AMAZING by the way), but I would like a smaller camera to compliment it. Sometimes you just need a snappy camera that you can put in your pocket and take everywhere, even though it’s on the lower end in terms of photo quality.

Dishdasha wela Jeans?

December 23, 2009 buckeye23 6 comments

I was just out with my father getting new “dishdashas”, when I realized that I’m almost 20 and I still don’t regularly wear “dishdashas”. I asked my father when he started wearing them, and he said he used to wear them since he was a kid. I know that times have changed now, but don’t you think that by 20, one should start wearing “dishdashas”. Then I thought of my friends, who none of which wear “dishdashas” regularly and they too are almost 20. I personally feel that jeans are a little more comfortable, but I feel that dishdashas are “aksha5″. What do you think? Also I want the female’s opinion on this: your mental image of a man in his early 20’s is wearing a pair of jeans or a dishdasha? oo ayho aksha5??

Remarks on an Early Outing at 360 Mall

December 23, 2009 buckeye23 Leave a comment

This was supposed to be a post about a certain cafe in 360 mall I went to earlier this morning. Unfortunately, it was ruined by an incident that forced me to avoid mentioning the place. Anyways, so I was there with my mother at this cafe and I was craving something sweet. Sadly, their desert (is it desert or dessert?) wasn’t that good. So after we were done, we were chatting when we noticed that one of the staff who was preparing the foods on the display left to the bathroom with her apron on. Furthermore, when she came back, she attended to a customer without washing her hands! Now she might’ve washed her hands back in the toilet room, but I think she should’ve also washed her hands at the cafe before returning to work. It’s just a nice gesture that way for the customers to be assured of cleanliness. For this reason I have refrained from mentioning the name of the place.

Another thing that I have noticed at 360 mall -which has nothing to do with the cafe- is that the fountain they have inside wasn’t well designed! The water splashes onto the floor when the fountain shoots up, and there’s a worker who keeps wiping the floor every once in a while around the area.

Why I’m Not Liking KD Cow’s Chocolate Milk

December 21, 2009 buckeye23 5 comments

Everyone by now knows the crisis us Chocolate-milk-lovers are going through with the absence of KDD chocolate milk on the shelves of “jam3iyas”. The alternative we’ve decided on is KD cow. Now it’s not really that bad, but it’s still not good enough. The chocolate tastes way too fake and artificial. It is too sweet. Also, remember when you could just hold the straw in one hand, and using your thumb you would force the straw out of its wrapper? Won’t happen with KD Cow :(

No-Brainer

December 19, 2009 buckeye23 3 comments

I just saw this ad over at Fereej and was stunned. I was planning on getting a lower-end brand 32″ LCD TV since my budget was 300KD. Thanks to Electrozan though, I got a Sony Bravia (the “catch” is that it’s assembled in Malaysia rather than Japan, but so what?) 40″ for only 300KD. Plus I used the 40KD in-store voucher to get a stand for it. At the end of the day, I’m a happy man :)

Thanks Fereej and Electrozan.

Anti-Fasttelco Zone

December 18, 2009 buckeye23 Leave a comment

We have an annual subscription with Fasttelco, and with my 5 day experience with it so far I must say I hated every bit of it. The connection keeps getting “stuck” every now and then. It’s like you use the internet for 15 minutes, then it freezes for 2 minutes, then you’re back on again! It sucks. BIG TIME. Thankfully our subscription ends on the 22nd of January, the day which we will install a Qualitynet connection :)

This is officially going to be an anti-Fasttelco blog.

Crowning a New King?

December 16, 2009 buckeye23 2 comments

The car you see before you – the Porsche 9ff GT9 R – could very well be on its way to dethrone the SSC Ultimate Aero for the World’s Fastest Production Car thanks to its 1120 HP and top speed of 414 Km/h. Then again, a 9ff GT9 R does sound better than Ultimate Aero, right?

Quick Observations

December 12, 2009 buckeye23 Leave a comment

Since my biological clock is all screwed right now, I have suddenly lost the need to sleep at 2 am. I have noticed since I have arrived that the streets in Kuwait (That I’ve passed in the couple days I’ve been here so far) are much cleaner and better looking (surprise). Now this might be due to whatever is taking place between the GCC countries. Another thing (on a completely different topic) I went to Starbucks at The Palms yesterday morning, and I must say their variety of sandwiches, pastries and salads are very tempting. Now as many know I’m not a big fan of Starbucks, yet I must admit that I had a great start to my day yesterday. I had the Halloum Sandwich which was very fresh and delicious. I’m happy I’m back home :)
